In a significant announcement, the Qatar Calendar House, in collaboration with the Al-Ajari Scientific Center in Kuwait, has confirmed that the holy month of Ramadan for the year 2025 (1446 AH) will commence on Saturday, 1 March 2025. This determination comes from precise astronomical calculations conducted by experts in the field.
According to a joint statement released by both organizations, the crescent moon marking the beginning of Ramadan will be born on Friday, February 28, at 3:45 AM, local time in Doha and Kuwait, which corresponds to 12:45 AM Universal Time.
The statement further emphasized that while astronomical calculations provide a clear starting point, the official declaration regarding the commencement of Ramadan remains under the jurisdiction of the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
Engineer Faisal Al Ansari, Executive Director of the Qatar Calendar House, indicated that there is a possibility of sighting the crescent moon on the evening of February 28 in the skies of Qatar and Kuwait. He noted that the crescent moon will set 32 minutes after sunset on that day, enhancing the likelihood of its visibility.
As communities prepare for this sacred month, this announcement brings clarity to the expected start date, allowing families and individuals to plan their observances and spiritual activities in advance. Ramadan is a time for reflection, fasting, and community, and this announcement marks an important milestone for millions around the world.
